Kathleen E. “Kathy” (McCartney) Mellein, 69, of Huron, died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 9,2012 in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.
She was born Sept. 16 1942m in Connellsville, PA. and moved to Wellington, Ohio, when she was eight years old. She then moved to Perkins and graduated from Perkins High School, where she was a cheerleader, in 1961. She worked for Barr Rubber, of Sandusky, and then Lorain Ford Motor Company from 1965 until retiring in 1997
She is a member of St Peter Catholic Church, Huron, and volunteered with the Ladies Funeral Luncheon Group and also the RCIA group of the church. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and shopping.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years James, a stepson, Joshua Mellein of Colunbus, two brothers, Wesley (Patricia)McCartney, of Daytona Fla., and Wallace (Sue) McCartney of Huron, nieces, Margaret McCartney, Meredith McCartney. And Regina Pratt, and a nephew Curtis McCartney. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wallace and Regina (Tressler) McCartney and a brother Roger McCartney.
A funeral mass was held Tuesday, Feb. 14, at St Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main Street, Huron. The Rev. Jeffrey Sikorski officiated. Burial took place at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.

Donald Manders

Donald Manders. 82. of Huron passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after an extended illness.
He was born July 29,1929, in the Beavertail Lighthouse on Conneaut Island, R.I. son of the late George and Ruth Manders. Don was a graduate of Berlin Heights High School and worked as a machinist for New Departure Hyatt.
Don was a two-time Monarch of the Singara Grotto, a 68-year active Mason, and a member of Ely Lodge 424. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, as well as a U.S. Coast Guard commander (ret.)
Don is survived by his loving spouse of 57 years Joan, a brother Charles Manders, sister Georgianna Thompson, two sons, Scott Jeffrey Manders of Falls Church, VA. And Greg Manders of High Springs, Fla., six grandsons, Alex Manders, John Manders, Ryan Manders, Marc Manders, Cameron Manders, and Evan Manders; two granddaughters, Lisa Manders and Sarah Manders; and one great granddaughter Liliana Manders.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Manders.
Masonic services were held Feb. 13th, at Groff Funeral Home and Crematory, Huron Chapel. Public committal services were held on Monday as well with Melvin Sayler, Stein Hospice Chaplain officiated. American Legion Post 83 Honor Guard provided military honors.
