Goodwill Stores Need Donations

Goodwill Industries of Erie, Huron, Ottawa and Sandusky Counties is calling on residents and businesses to donate clothing, computers, books, and other household items to their nearest Goodwill retail store.

“Donations are up this year, and more people are shopping at Goodwill than ever before,” reports Eric Kochendoerfer, Goodwill CEO.  “We appreciate the generosity of the community, and are grateful that with their help, we are able to help more families.

The challenge for us, however, is that our shoppers are buying more than our donors are bringing in.  The net result is that our stores are low on inventory.  We are asking residents to please clean out their closets, cabinets, and basements, and to bring gently used clothing and household items to our stores.  We are concerned that winter is an especially tough time for families and we want to make sure that we are doing our best to help meet their needs.”

Donations and sales at Goodwill stores help fund employment programs for the disabled and disadvantaged in the four county area.  Last year Goodwill provided more than 1,500 services to 700 local residents.  Goodwill estimates that approximately four bags of donations generates enough revenue to provide one Goodwill job to a local resident for one day.

Goodwill operates stores in Bellevue, Fremont, Huron, Port Clinton, Norwalk, Sandusky and Willard as well as having donation “drop boxes” throughout the four county area.

“When you donate to Goodwill, your donation stays in your local Goodwill store and helps individuals and families in your community”, said Kochendoerfer.
