Huron Methodists Donate To Haiti Relief

The United Methodist Church of Huron, 338 Williams St., contributed $1,235 to relief aid to Haiti during their 8 and 10 a.m. Sunday services on Jan. 17. The congregation was especially moved when pastor Roger Skelley-Watts reported that the worldwide head of United Methodist relief services (UMCOR – United Methodist Committee on Relief) perished under the collapsed Hotel Montana before rescue workers could reach him. The Rev. Sam Dixon was meeting with the head of United Methodist mission volunteers Rev. Clint Rabb and consultant Rev. James Gulley, making plans to improve medical services in Haiti. It was later reported on Sunday afternoon that Rev. Rabb also died of his injuries in a Florida hospital.

Rev. Roger's Encourages Others to Reach Out

I was minding my own business, driving home after church on a clear, sunny Sunday afternoon. As I got over into the right turn lane, I noticed a car sitting at the side street. Then, without warning (or looking), he drove right toward me, plowed straight into the center of my passenger door as if I had painted a target on it. Fortunately nobody got hurt, no airbags exploded, the police responded and our insurance companies worked it out, sending me to Law Brothers for repair work. I even had time to get home, pick up our dog Greta and get to the Confirmation Class Halloween party
at the Wilson residence. But the next day, I began to feel aches and pains, as well as “all shook up” and disoriented. Not to mention paranoid and jumpy that I would be hit again. I’ve heard from folks who were involved in major accidents that it’s much worse for them. Other events do the same to us, don’t they? Moving; divorce; military service; making new friends in a new school or neighborhood; job loss; illness; losing a spouse, close friend or even a long-time pet companion; becoming an empty nester; taking care of a parent, adult child or grandchild ... I’m sure you have your own example of being thrown for a loop.

Church Hosts Interactive Christmas Program

New Life Church will once again host its Search for the Christ Child presentation for family and friends to enjoy an evening of fun, fellowship, and adventure as they become a part of the Christmas Story. The church invites everyone to travel back in time to a year when the Roman Empire ruled and the Prince of Peace was born in a small town called Bethlehem.
The Church first hosted the presentation in 1995, but it was suspended in 2004.  The community is invited to be of the interactive walk, experiencing what it was like more than 2000 years ago when Jesus Christ was born.
